Theses (Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses)
Would you like to write your Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis with us?
Below you will find the most important information about the process, the requirements, and topic selection.
Admission requirements
Bachelor’s thesis: passed exam in the course “Options & Futures" (2.3 or better)
Master’s thesis: passed exam in “Energy Trading” or passed exam in "Structuring and Valuation”
Note: The starting date of the thesis is flexible. Unlike other chairs, we do not have fixed starting dates (e.g., April 1 or October 1).
Topic selection
A list of topic suggestions from the chair can be found on this page.
Own topic proposals are also welcome, provided they fit the thematic profile of the chair.
To get an impression of our thematic profile, we recommend looking at this page and also reviewing the research areas of our academic staff. Simply click on the name of the respective person.
In general, we supervise both quantitative theses (e.g., empirical analyses of market data or modeling of energy and financial markets) and qualitative theses (e.g., structured literature reviews and conceptual work).
Procedure
- Fill out the registration form (Bachelor or Master).
Note: The registration form is non-binding. The topic idea indicated there serves only as an orientation and is not final. - Attach your current transcript of records.
- Send both documents to our chair's University Administrative Assistant.
We will check whether we have available capacity. You will then receive an email to arrange an initial meeting with your supervisor.
After discussing the topic with your supervisor, you will prepare:
- an exposé (short description of the planned thesis)
- a detailed table of contents
This ensures that it becomes clear at an early stage how you plan to structure and conduct your thesis.
Language and formal guidelines
The thesis can be written in German or English.
Formal guidelines for writing an academic thesis can be found here.
Upon request, LaTeX templates (English or German) can be provided.
